Hanes History

1901 John Wesley Hanes introduced a new two-piece underwear, a radical departure from the traditional one-piece union suit popular at the time. The T-shirt was born!

1970's Hanes discovered that their white underwear products were being screenprinted and worn as outerwear. Hanes distributes white underwear T-shirts to screenprinters.

1975 Hanes introduces a heavier weight T-shirt, called the Hanes Beefy-T® specifically for the screenprint industry. Later that year, Hanes develops the "screenprinter fold" eliminating the additional cost and handling of individual packaging.

1982 Hanes starts its business in Europe with a European collection.

2001 Celebration of 100 Years of Hanes.

2004 Transformation from a unisex collection to separate Hanes collections for men and women has a revolutionary impact in the market.

2009 The Hanes printable business is welcomed back to New Zealand, Australia and the Pacific Islands after a 3 year absence.
